Shop in Reverse to Save Money!

If I hear the phrase "in these economic times" one more time, I'm going to scream. Aaaaack! Okay, I just heard it again. Times are tough--we get it. We're living it! I lost my full time job last year too, so I feel it.

Never before has my shopping and deal savvy skills been so important to me as it has been this past year. One tip I'd like to share is what I call shopping in reverse.

Most people shop going forward; I do the opposite to save money. For instance, when it's the Christmas season, most people gather their thoughts, make up a list and head out to the stores. Maybe it's Thanksgiving weekend, maybe a little before or a little after.

But think about it, when you wait until then, you're really held captive. You have to have a gift to give within the next two to four weeks. Same goes when you get a party invitation, birthday or otherwise. You get the birthday invitation, so you go out and shop. You're under the gun so you don't really have time to price shop, do you?

Make it a habit to shop in reverse. Once a year, or maybe more frequently, sit down and make a list. Include all the gifts you buy during a typical year. Don't forget birthdays, anniversaries, possible weddings or babies, holidays--you name it. Don't forget everyone:  teachers, coworkers, day care workers--anyone at all that you buy a gift for, put them on the list. Then, fold it up and keep it in your purse or wallet.

Now, next time you are at a store or mall and find a clearance sale, get out your list. It's that simple. I also keep a small supply of generic gifts-picture frames, candles and the like, so that I am prepared for whatever comes up.

See a sidewalk sale with $1 sweaters on sale? Get out your list. Who would you buy a sweater for? Heading to the Target toy clearance this July? Get out your list. I know lots of couponing moms that do all of their Christmas shopping in July at the toy clearance. Find a shelf, closet or spot in your basement/attic at home to store these items. Note on your list what you've already purchased to avoid duplicate purchases. When it's time to give your babysitter her holiday gift, would you rather spend $30 on a sweater or $2 on clearance?

Consider holiday picture frames as gift options | Palindromes Movie

Holiday picture frames make for a thoughtful present around the holidays. There are several different kinds of holiday frames which are worth considering. In this report I’m going to talk about three different kinds of holiday frames: Christmas picture frames, Santa Claus frames, and snowflake frames. These are a varied collection of frames that are all thought of to be holiday. I’m going to discuss the specifics and appropriate present situations for every kind.

The first holiday picture frame I’m going to discuss is the Christmas picture frame. Due to cultural sensitivity you have to be especially mindful of who you gift this frame to. Please make cautious note that the religious affiliation of Christmas will not offend the receiver. Christmas frames can range from including images of manger scenes such as baby Jesus, or the frames can just be a smiling Santa Claus and his eight tiny reindeer. This leads me to another sort of frame I want to discuss, the Santa Claus frame . Imagery depicting Santa are less affiliated with religion, especially if the phrase “Merry Christmas” are omitted. Thus Santa Claus frames are far more acceptable presents as they are less overtly expressing personal belief.  The last sort I intend to reference is the snowflake frame. This sort of holiday picture frame remains holiday themed in the sense that people affiliate snow with the holiday season. The snowflake image is very impartial and remains appropriate for display even after the holidays have passed. The snowflake reigns acceptable for the entire winter time of year and there for as an extended annual shelf life in contrast to the earlier mentioned Christmas and Santa Claus frames, who presumably be stashed away as soon as the holidays have finished. Snowflake frames maintain their neutrality.

In this write-up I discussed a number of various holiday picture frames that would be great options, that included a look at Christmas, Santa Claus and snowflake frames. All frames can be considered an acceptable present for someone as long as you take the receiver’s beliefs in to consideration. If you do not have time to do that, or you’re gifting to a mass amount of folks, please maintain neutrality and opt for the snowflake frame.
