It's a commonly held perception that people cannot have an eating disorder if they are a normal weight.
But a petite mother-of-two hid her severe binge eating for years - by working off the calories in the gym.
Linda Gartside, 40, has now left her junk food obsession behind and set her sights on becoming Miss Universe after becoming a champion body-builder.
But after watching family members struggle for years with their weight, she had developed a problem with food and spent more than thirty years secretly binge-eating hordes of junk food.
After gorging herself on carrier bags full of chocolates, cakes and crisps, the Arnold Schwarzenegger fan would throw herself into heavy cardio work-outs at the gym through guilt.
And as she managed to maintain her weight no one noticed her problem.
As Linda approached forty, her teenage dreams of becoming a champion body-builder resurfaced and she decided it was time to kick her unhealthy obsession for good, focusing on weight training and overhauling her diet.
Just two years on, 5'3" Linda has completely transformed her physique and has competed in female body-building competitions on a national and international level to be crowned Miss UK and Miss Britain 2010. She has also recently ranked 5th in the world.
The driving instructor, of Rochdale, Greater Manchester, is now training to become a personal trainer specialising in obesity management.
She said: 'Everyone does bodybuilding for different reasons, some do it for their ego, some for winning but I'm doing it to fight my body.
'I grew up with my mum and dad and my sister all struggling with their weight in different ways.
'I've got an addictive personality, it just so happened that my addiction was with food but no-one understood compulsive eating as a disorder then.
'Bodybuilding has saved me, while everyone else is thinking win, win, win, I'm thinking I don't want to end up obese. To me bodybuilding was breaking the cycle of my eating problems because the further I got from obesity the healthier I thought I was.'
Linda says she began binge-eating when she was just eight-years-old after watching her mum, dad and older sister struggle with their weight. She stocked up on goodies at the shops and crouched behind the bus stop to eat them on the way home from school.
