Referendum against Arizona DUI law not reached | Thompson ...
A referendum that was created to try and stop an Arizona DUI law from going into effect has fallen short.
The referendum did not receive the 86, 405 signatures that they needed in order to get the law suspended. After the suspension, a public vote would have been done.
The referendum was trying to block the new law that will eliminate the right to a jury trial that defendants now have when they are charged with a regular DUI for the first time. The DUI bill was signed on April 29. Opponents of this new law state that it is unconstitutional.
