Native equestrians help start revolutionary site

“I was a famous rider and now I’m best known as one of the judges from Judge My Ride,” said Gage, who is an AGA Rider of the Year in back-to-back seasons, four-time West Coast Rider of the Year, three-time World Cup team member, and co-star of the film “Lightening the White Stallion” with Mickey Rooney. “It’s kind of funny.” “Before this people had to drive to the library and read a book to find out what exercise will help their horse do such a thing,” said Dean-Porter, who graduated from Rolling Hills High School in 1969 before capturing the GTE High Jump three times and the Gran Premio de Mexico at the Caliente Race Track. “We can now give instant and quality instruction.” Dean-Porter, who retired from competitions two years ago and remains a PV resident, wears several hats, too, such as that of an equine journalist, member of several committees and manager of the Horse for Parks donation program. She’s also worked as a teacher since the age of 13. Some her notable students include top Grand Prix competitor Mandy Porter, Alexis White (Chadwick School) and Peggy Schrello Lebrecht.

Summer Fun At Palos Verdes Libraries - 365 Things To Do In Palos ...

If your trying to find fun activities for both you and your children this summer, look no further.  Our own Palos Verdes Library District offers entertainment for both adults and children this summer.  Besides the adult reading groups, history centers and local community events, the libraries are offering special summer activities for all Palos Verdes homes owner to enjoy with their children. They are offering reading groups for children as young as 6 months to be enjoyed with their parents.

Malaga Cove Library is offering Babies in the Library which is for 6-23 month old children on Fridays at 10:30 a.m.  There will be some live action activities in addition to the fun story telling by wonderful volunteers.  There are also Thrilling Thursdays which will captivate children ages 2 to 5,  from 3:00 – 3:45 p.m. with songs, puppets and storytelling.  Kid’s chess is also available for children 8-16 on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.  For more information regarding the chess program contact (310) 377-9584.  Malaga Cove Library is located at 2400 Via Campesina, Palos Verdes Estates 90274.

The Peninsula Library has many programs available for local youth.  They have the young readers Thwacky Thursdays for children 2-5, beginning at 10:15 a.m. and will include wacky fun with stories, different rhythms and more.  On Tuesdays they offer Curly’s story time at 10:15 a.m., and even have a morning Barney Bear story time on Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. which offers puppets songs and silliness.  Also on Wednesdays at 6:30 pm. is Pillow Time Storytelling where children are encouraged to wear their pajamas and bring their own stuffed animal to keep them company.  If you are interested in Pillow Time, it is recommended to be fifteen minutes early to pick up a free ticket at the Young Readers desk. The Miraleste Library is having Lenny Lion Story time on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. Lenny the gentle lion puppet will be bringing stories, finger puppets and songs for children 2-5 to enjoy.  The Miraleste Library is located at 29089 Palos Verdes Drive East, Rancho Palos Verdes 90275.
