Linked to laughs: How jokes are delivered in the digital age | Philadelphia ...
What do you get when you take an "elephant joke" made popular in the 1960s and fast-forward 50 years?
A YouTube clip gone viral.
Well, sort of.
The joke may be lost to a generation of tweeters and texters who likely don't even know what an "elephant joke" is (until a Wikipedia search, naturally), but can probably recite the words to Rebecca Black's "Friday," a recent YouTube sensation.
Today, after all, there seems to be a different dexterity when it comes to transmitting humor - an ability to discover all breeds of comedy online through platforms such as YouTube and then to share it rapidly, making viral everything from "Charlie Bit My Finger" (more than 330 million views) to the "Bed Intruder Song" (nearly 85 million hits). (Black's video has more than 165 million.)
, a game he cocreated that prompts players to fill in words of a story at strategically funny places. Stern spent his life writing jokes, but he afforded millions the syntax to construct their own. These days, humor is delivered in different packages.
"No one really says, 'Hey, can I tell you a joke?' " said Sheena Jain, 22, a recent University of Pittsburgh graduate. "Instead, you say, 'Hey, did you see that YouTube video?' "
Simply mentioning YouTube demonstrates Jain's point: She and her friends started rattling off their favorites, laughing as they waited for a movie recently in West Philadelphia.
And perhaps YouTube clips are like the old knock-knock jokes: They're so easy to access that people are able to share them freely.
"A YouTube clip is funny in and of itself . . . and then it becomes something that you can reference in the in-group that's seen it," said Tyson Mitman, 29, a doctoral student at Drexel University, whose research examines social constructions of self and individual conceptions of identity.

So, how are jokes - the common currency of humor - evolving at a time where sharing is the Internet keyword? Sharing humor isn't new, but the way it's shared is. Prolific comedy writer Leonard B. Stern, who died recently at age 88, epitomized a

Thank-you to the writer for this good article, which is a fantastic resource for search .
Believe me, you could write a series of books about search engine optimization (SEO) tips that would take you months to read. I recognize that, and this article is not intended to be anything more than three quick and easy SEO tips to help you gain more readers. You’ll find much more information throughout the internet, and I encourage you to do so if you have the time. With that said, here are three quick SEO tips that you can read in one minute, and implement in two.
To gain more readers, give your article a keyword friendly title The title of your article is the best opportunity to give your keyword the biggest bang for its buck. Make sure at least two of your keywords are in your title. Your title is given a prominent place on the internet, not only as the go-to searchable item, but it also shows up on the top of your browser. When a reader searches for your keyword, you have a much better chance for it to show up if it is in your title. So, either cater your title to the keyword, or your keyword to the title.
Bolding or italicizing section headers is an easy SEO tip As you can see here, I’ve broken this article down to three points and made each header bold. One of my keywords is SEO tip. By making it bold I’ve made it more likely to be picked up by a search engine reader. Search engines recognize that a keyword that is either bolded or italicized is more important than just a normal word, so use that to your advantage. Break your article into easy sections and give each section a bolded header which includes one of your keywords. Now that is an easy SEO tip!
Another quick SEO tip to gain more readers is to acquire links to your content I’m not saying that you need to spend all your time promoting your work. If you’ve written a good article, you’ll probably get a following. But, a quick SEO tip is to get yourself a few backlinks to your article from a source that has more traffic. These backlinks will help your article place higher. Don’t spam every blog out there, but if you’re a reader in a relevant forum, slip in a link to your article every once in awhile. If you wrote a review of something, put a link from a different article about that product. If you have a blog, why not place a link from your blog to your article? As you may know, I link every one of my articles from my blog. Now, my blog isn’t very pretty, but my goal isn’t for it to be pretty. I’m just trying to quickly and easily promote my work.
