A graduate of CK High School in 2010, Foisy was involved in the area's martial arts community, achieving the rank of brown belt and practicing out of Eastside Shotokan Karate Academy in Bremerton, according to Kevin O'Neil, his sensei.
Karate competition takes over Bell Tower - Orange County Register
RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA – Members of four Southern California-area karate studios met on the mats at the Bell Tower Regional Community Center earlier this month for Rancho-based Shotokan Karate-Do Association's multi-Dojo competition.
The competition included USA Open and Junior Olympics hopefuls from Shotokan Karate-Do Association of Rancho Santa Margarita, Nihon Karate-Do of Fullerton, Kobushi Shotokan of Riverside and AJKA of Carlsbad.
More than 300 entrants competed in white and yellow belt divisions in Kata (forms), Kumite (sparring), and Team Kata, and in brown and black belt divisions in Kata and Kumite.
Adam Kraus of Nihon Karate-Do owned the brown belt field. Most Kata divisions are decided by a tenth of a point, but Kraus scored a full point higher than everyone else. The most outstanding Kumite performance went to Thomas Nguyen of Nihon Karate-Do, who beat Nicholas Yoshioka of Shotokan Karate-Do in an overtime final.
The black belt division was dominated by Adam Takatsuka of Shotokan Karate-Do. He mastered individual Kata, Team Kata and Kumite earning him the most outstanding competitor award.
Shotokan Karate-Do had some great family honors as Sophia, Ethan and Alex Rimando took home eight trophies, while Bobby and Billy Dean took home six.
Shotokan Karate-Do students are gearing up for the USA Open and Junior Olympics at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas beginning Friday. Shotokan Karate-Do's Teryn Igawa, Ryan Takatsuka, Adam Takatsuka, Nicholas Yoshioka, Andre Flores and Aldo Ruiz Ortiz are expected to compete in the three-day event.
